Message from the CEO, Frances Newman
As part of our ongoing tribute to Canada’s 150th we’re celebrating music in May with a Canadian Music Trivia Challenge. Test your knowledge and maybe even win a prize! We’ll have the Young Singers on May 9 and Music in the Stacks with the Bruce Gorrie Duo on May 15.
Our theme for June is “Telling our Stories”. In partnership with the Oshawa Seniors Citizens Centres, we’ll be celebrating wedding fashions throughout the decades with “Something Old, Something New: It’s all about the Dress”. Winners of the annual Seniors Art and Writing contests will also be announced in June.
Speaking of stories, our friends at the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa are collecting car stories with photos as part of their Canada 150 celebration. I love cars but this wasn’t always the case. As a kid I dreaded car trips and therefore hated cars. Each summer the whole family would pile into our Austin Cambridge with no air-conditioning and the windows rolled up because my mother claimed she got a stiff neck from the wind. My grandfather continuously smoked a pipe in the stifling hot car, so needless to say I was carsick a lot as a kid. My relationship with cars is much better now! Share your car stories and/or photos at email@example.com.
See you at the Library!
