Let the battle begin! The Battle of the Books is a fabulous partnership between public libraries and schools in Durham Region! If you want to motivate students who enjoy reading, get a team together and match wits with some of the best readers in town or even across the Durham Region. Registration begins mid-September.
Each year in April, the "Battle of the Books" teams from schools in Oshawa meet for the Semi-Battle competition. The top three teams from each division go on to the Final Battle to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. The gold medal winners are awarded a trophy for their school and go on to compete in the Regional Championship.
The Battle of the Books is hosted at two levels: the junior division is for students in grades 4 - 6 and the senior division is for students in grades 7 and 8. The past champions of Battle of the Books can be found here:
Congratulations to Coronation PS who won the 2016 Regional Final in both Junior and Senior divisions! Well done!
Here are the official rules & booklists for the 2017 competition:
Junior Booklist 2017
Senior Booklist 2017
We will not include the Forest of Reading titles this year. Instead we will incorporate new Canadian titles into the regular list for a book total of 30 per division. This is six less books. We will also be reducing the number of questions from 12 to 10 per round. We will also increase the weight of the scoring to the Lightning Round to 5 points, up from 3 points. Please contact Alison (see below) if you have any questions.
