Our collections are terrific, but occasionally, we do not own the item(s) that you are looking for. We can obtain it for you from other library systems through our Interlibrary Loan Service (ILLO).

Items available through Interlibrary Loan include:

  • Books
  • DVDs
  • compact discs
  • talking books
  • magazines
  • microfilm

For items less than a year old, please make a Purchase Request as most libraries will not lend out new material through ILLO.

Please note that the following are not eligible for ILLO:

  • eBooks or eAudiobooks
  • Video games
  • Blu-rays
  • Items already owned by Oshawa Public Libraries and in the catalogue

There are several ways to order an Interlibrary Loan:

  • Making an online request
  • In person at any branch
  • By emailing
  • By calling 905-579-6111 ext. 5235

You may find it convenient to input orders yourself by creating a self-initiated Interlibrary Loan account. Once you have your own account, you may place requests directly through INFOntario.

Most Interlibrary Loan requests are fulfilled within a couple weeks; occasionally it may take more than six weeks.

To process your request, your library card must be in good standing (i.e. no outstanding charges or overdue materials) and be up to date.

Status updates:

Due to the volume of requests, we regret we are unable to notify customers if an item cannot be obtained; however, for updates on your requests, you are welcome to contact Interlibrary Loan staff at 905-579-6111 ext. 5235, or at You must provide both your library card number and the title of the item you are enquiring about.

Unless the item is indicated as non-renewable, you may renew an interlibrary loan item by calling 905-579-6111, ext. 5235, or by emailing Requests for renewals should be made a few days before the due date.

Overdue fines:

  • Overdue fines for Interlibrary Loan items are $1.00 per day for renewable material, and $2.00 per day for non-renewable material. These fines are non-negotiable.
  • Lost or damaged fees are determined by the loaning library.
